The Rescue Game
A rescue plan with no accountability structure is a document that gets ignored by week three. Accountability means doing what you said you'd do — and inspecting whether you did. This section builds that inspection into a system.
Where's the Ball?
Every action on your rescue plan has a ball in play. Where's the Ball means always knowing who has the ball, and what that person needs to do with it based on their role. A missed action usually isn't a mystery once you ask that question — the ball was dropped, or no one knew they were holding it.
Turn the Plan Into a Game
- Points: Assign points to each action based on its dollar impact — bigger gap closed, more points.
- Streaks: Track consecutive weeks where scheduled actions were actually completed.
- Milestones: Set checkpoints where a cumulative point total triggers a full scorecard review.
Steps
- Take your rescue plan action list and assign a point value to each item.
- Next to each action, name who has the ball and what their role requires them to do with it.
- Set a weekly check-in to mark actions complete and tally points — this is the inspection, not an honor system.
- Track your streak — consecutive weeks of full completion.
- At each milestone, re-check your scorecard against the Target Profit and Loss statement. If a number is off, pivot immediately — don't wait for the next monthly review.
You'll walk away with:
A point-and-streak system that always answers Where's the Ball, week over week.
